Manchester City Backed to End Drought against Southampton

Just a few weeks ago, Pep Guardiola was one of the talking points in the Premier League after his Manchester City team had made a stunning start to the league campaign.

The club created a new record for the most number of consecutive wins, but they now have fallen into the darker periods. Even now, Guardiola continues to create a lot of debate but for different reasons. City have failed to win in the last four matches of all competitions and also includes a thrashing at the hands of Barcelona. Even during this difficult run, Guardiola has persisted with his techniques of playing out from the back and keeping the ball.

This has led to many pundits questioning the tactics of the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich boss. In the past, Guardiola has enjoyed immense success using a similar style of football. History, though, points to the fact that most of the success has been with Barcelona. Bayern Munich may have won the league title in all of his campaigns, but they were found out time and time again in the Champions League. The Premier league was always expected to provide intense competition, and it could only get worse this weekend win his team takes on Southampton.

Unbeaten in the last four games, Southampton are backed at a distant 5/1 for a win due to their exertions in the Europa League. City only recently suffered a home defeat at the hands of Everton, but it would be a better bet to focus on a draw. A stalemate is given odds of 10/3, while the probability of Manchester City getting their first win in four games is backed at 11/10. These are still reasonably high odds for a win, but City’s poor form is unlikely to last for a long time.
