AC Milan have confirmed that Zlatan Ibrahimovic has put pen-to-paper on a new contract until the summer of 2021. The former Sweden international joined the Rossoneri on a short-term deal in January after the expiry of his contract at LA Galaxy. He initially made a slow start to the proceedings, but ended the campaign with 11 goals and five assists from 20 games as the club secured Europa League football.

The Rossoneri were always eager to prolong his stay for another year and they have now officially confirmed that the 38-year-old has signed a fresh deal until next summer, a statement on their website read: “AC Milan is delighted to announce that Zlatan Ibrahimović has renewed his contract with the Club until June 30, 2021.

The Swedish champion began his journey with the Club in 2010 when he made 85 appearances and scored 56 goals during a stint which also yielded one Scudetto and one Supercoppa. Ibrahimović returned to Milan in January this year and contributed significantly to AC Milan's return to Europe, netting 11 goals in 20 matches, reaching the 100 appearances milestone with the Rossoneri.”
The San Siro outfit were certainly the in-form team during the backend of the Serie A campaign and they ended the season with a 12-match unbeaten streak where they beat the likes of Juventus and Lazio. As a result, they qualified for the Europa League with a sixth place finish, but won’t get a direct entry into the group stage due to Napoli winning the Coppa Italia.
Hence, they will need to go through three qualifying rounds to make it to the competition proper and Ibrahimovic will definitely have a key part to play up front. They are scheduled to face Irish club Shamrock Rovers on the road during the second qualifying round on September 17.
